Good Week

While Trish has been enjoying her time at home playing sports with her boys, and getting back into the swing of taking care of them full time, she has also continued working on her rehabilitation.

Today she had a great follow up visit with her surgeon, Dr. Nick Theodore at the Barrows Neurological Institute. The doctor told Trish that she was healing very fast and had made excellent progress in her PT & OT sessions. And while her struggles with the nerve pain have been frustrating, Dr. Theodore told her that this may be a good sign. He said that it proves there is some nerve communication that is traveling past the point of her spinal cord injury to her brain.

This was just what the doctor ordered for Trish as the thought that there is real hope for the future is all she needs to keep going strong, and to deal with whatever comes. She is committed to working with the physical therapists each week and including the "stim bike" in her routine to keep the muscles in her legs active, and strong (see the picture from the July 13th post).

Trish & Scott plan to go boating this weekend with one of the therapists from St. Joseph's (who also has a boat).

Trish,
It is so weird to hear what the doctor has told you because just last night I had a dream that you were walking with a cane and sometimes without the cane as long as you walked slow!! Keep up the hard work and I know we will see you real soon at Brisas!! We need your smiling face around the school! Take care, Tammy Etherton

That is so strange that your doctor told you that about the pain in your legs. When I have been reading lately about your pains, I thought that that had to be a good sign, painful as it may be, because I thought maybe that is your legs letting you know to not give up on them!!!

Dear Trish, you are the strongest person I have never met in person. I feel like I know you from keeping up with this blog all summer. Thanks to your wonderful Dad! Keep up the good work. Hope to see and meet you in person at Brisas soon! God bless you and your family. You are in my thoughts and prayers daily. Take care. Jeanna Lenhauser, Brisas parent.

Trish,
How great it was to see you on Friday at Brisas where you belong. We can't wait for you to come back. I have been following your progress and you are truly an inspiration. You have changed the way I think about all the hurdles that stand in my way. Whenever something comes up that I think I can't handle, I remember how positive and strong you have been and if Trish can do this, then I can get through any tough situation. You have changed my way of thinking. Thank you. I am looking forward to seeing you at Brisas again very soon!! :) - Monica Hecker

Hey, girl,
Keep an eye out for Alex Heide at Barrows. He should be there going through PT. He is the brother of Nik's (my son) girlfriend. He is another fighter, just like you. I was excited to hear you visited Brisas. Can't wait to see you again.
Love, Kathy G.

Trish, my friend, you are NEVER far from my thoughts. I am looking forward to seeing you next year when I return to the USA for a visit. This is certainly amazing news and I have no doubt that anything you put your mind to, you will achieve. Please know that love and support for you stretches as far south as the globe can contain the landforms. Take care of yourself! XOXO Joe Grube (from Down Under)
