More Challenges

Trish finished her second full week at home, and continues to adapt to her new circumstances.

Her recovery efforts continue to be hampered by the nerve pain in her lower extremities. The doctors are struggling to find a medication that will deal with the pain without adverse side effects. Trish will be seeing a pain management specialist next week who has experience with SCI patients.

Scott has arranged for the installation of a stair lift in their home to help Trish get upstairs. This should be installed late next week and will open up a whole new set of challenges and opportunities. When Trish can transport herself up the stairs, she will be able to use the master bathroom and she will be able to sleep in her own bedroom for the first time since May.

She continues with her out-patient PT & OT therapies, and has set a goal to learn how to get from her chair into her car so she can begin driving again. This will take a lot of effort, but will represent a huge milestone in her road to independence.

Trish,
I heard, I searched, and I read. This challenge confirms it. You are, no doubt, one of the strongest people I have met. I seems you are also blessed with a great family.

Your examples of strength are inspiring.

You are in our prayers. Ruben, Alyson, Emalynn, and Brenna Johnson.

Wow! To be able to sleep in your own bed. How good that is going to be. Hopefully the installation of the chair lift will proceed smoothly and you will soon be lifted up to the second floor.

I know that it must be so good to be at home. The boys (especially Scott!) must be so happy that you are back home.

Stay strong,
Myrna

Hi Trish,
A name from your old Delta days... it's Jeanine Thomas - Scott. I heard from a friend of your dad's at Forest Highlands about your accident and I wanted to get in touch with you to let you know that I was thinking of you. Reading your dad's blog and learning of your courage and your dedication is an inspiration.
When I heard the news, the image of you that came to mind first was back at NAU when you and Lisa so generously and selflessly took me in for a few days while I recovered from minor knee surgery. You were incredibly helpful and kind. It's nice to hear so many friends and family are there for you physically and spiritually, as I'm sure you have been for countless others over the years.
You look so beautiful in your pictures and your boys are adorable. How proud you must be. :)
Please know that I will continue to think of you daily. Love, Jeanine

Hey Trish,
I haven't written in awhile because I have been gone for 2 weeks. I went up north to Tawas (2 hours away) with 6 other teachers from my school for a fun filled girls week. We spent most of the time at the beach. This last week Ken, Robert and I went up to our cabin in the U.P. We have cabin up there. Anyways, enough about me. You are truly an inspiration! I don't know if I could handle things as well as you have. Hopefully the doctors will find something to deal with your pain. Once they do, I'm sure your PT will be more progessive.
We pray for you daily.
Love, Laura

Trish,

I heard about your accident from Stacy(Dunigan)Schutt. I just wanted you to know we are all thinking about you and praying for your strength and healing. After reading your blog, it is obvious what an amazing mother, wife and daughter you are. You were always a sweet & caring person. Your pictures are so beautiful. Your boys are so cute and I'm sure they are going to keep you smiling. :)

Love,

Trish,
I have to write and tell you what an impact you have had on my son (Colton Etherton) who is now a senior in high school. His english teacher gives them a subject to write about everyday and yesterday the subject was grade school and he chose to write about his favorite teacher (of course it was you)! In this paper he writes what a strong and fun teacher you are and how he hopes that his brother and sister will have a chance of you being there teacher! I know that one day we will have you back at brisas and at that time Colton will probably write about you for a college class! You are such an inspiration to all of us. Hang in there and take good care of yourself. P.S. I will try to keep a copy of his letter and bring it in one day to show you.
